Identity Crisis in Anand’s Untouchable

Abstract

do not get good opportunities in their lives. They are ill-treated by higher class. It portrays the difference between master and worker, rich and poor vividly. They have voice for humanity, equality, liberty and human right. They raise their voice but their voice is not heard by upper class people. The main character is exploited economically, culturally, politically and religiously by upper class people. It is the expression of deepest personal feeling of protagonist which is isolated and fragmented. Everywhere, they get exploited, dominated, suffered and tortured by upper class people. This exploitation certainly shatters the idea of harmony among people. Obviously, this bitter experience is the identity crisis of lower class/caste people. There is identity crisis of human status, justice and equality.

This research has been divided into four chapters: Introduction, Theoretical Modality of Marxism, Textual Analysis and Conclusion. Some main features of Marxism such as hegemony, subaltern, class struggle, exploitation, false consciousness etc will be the instrument for this research.
